About
Begonia malachosticta is a striking species native to the humid, shaded tropical forests of Ecuador. It thrives in the warm, moist understory where filtered light, high humidity, and a rich organic substrate from leaf litter and decaying wood create ideal growing conditions. This upright cane begonia features distinctive setose red stems and petioles. Its asymmetrical, elongate-ovate leaves have a dark green upper surface densely spotted with pale green to whitish maculations, contrasted by red undersides, and the plant exhibits a natural cane-like branching habit.

Ecuadorian Texture, Upper Tier
Begonia malachosticta from Ecuador's humid forest — the rough-textured species catalogued here with upper tier pricing that reflects either a more developed specimen or a slightly different market valuation than the main catalogue entry. The textured surface is the appeal. At upper middle tier it commands a price that asks something of the buyer in terms of commitment to appropriate conditions: humidity, drainage, bright indirect light. Worth it for the texture alone.
