Philodendron rugosum
Pigskin Philodendron

Morphology
About
Philodendron rugosum, described by Bogner and Bunting, is a compact climbing aroid from the humid premontane and montane forests of southern Colombia and Ecuador, growing on mossy trees in warm, wet conditions with filtered light, consistent high humidity, and rich organic matter. Universally known in the hobby as the 'Pigskin Philodendron', it earns its name immediately from the defining texture of its leaves: thick, leathery, deeply bullate and rugose cordate blades with a dramatically pockmarked, almost reptilian surface that is unlike any other Philodendron in cultivation. Short to moderate internodes form a compact climbing stem, with aerial roots at nodes aiding attachment. Slow-growing but rewarding, rugosum is valued precisely because patience is required — each new leaf, with its extraordinary raised-cell surface texture, arrives slowly and is worth waiting for.

Market Analysis & Price Guide
Historical auction metrics and live online retailer listings updated weekly.
How prices are calculated: The AA Price uses verified eBay UK completed auction data — we take the trimmed mean (removing the top and bottom 20% of prices) to produce a fair-value guide that excludes outlier sales. When recent auction data is unavailable, the AA Price falls back to the current UK retail average from tracked stockists. Retail prices are scraped from active UK plant shop listings and reflect what you would pay buying directly from a retailer today. All prices are in GBP and updated automatically.
