Begonia ningmingensis
Ningming Begonia

Morphology
About
Begonia ningmingensis, described by Fang, Wei and Peng, is a compact rhizomatous species native to limestone forest in Guangxi, China, growing in shaded, humid understory conditions on moist organic debris and thin humus over limestone rock with warm temperatures and high atmospheric humidity. Its bullate, dark green to bronzy leaves carry pale, contrasting venation and rich red undersides, borne on reddish petioles from a short rhizome that creeps at substrate level to produce a neat clump of sculptural foliage. As one of the Chinese limestone-dwelling begonias attracting increasing collector interest — a group that includes the celebrated ferox — ningmingensis represents the more accessible end of that cohort: still rare in cultivation, but somewhat more available than its spiny-bullate relatives, and bringing genuine beauty in a manageable compact form.

Market Analysis & Price Guide
Historical auction metrics and live online retailer listings updated weekly.
How prices are calculated: The AA Price uses verified eBay UK completed auction data — we take the trimmed mean (removing the top and bottom 20% of prices) to produce a fair-value guide that excludes outlier sales. When recent auction data is unavailable, the AA Price falls back to the current UK retail average from tracked stockists. Retail prices are scraped from active UK plant shop listings and reflect what you would pay buying directly from a retailer today. All prices are in GBP and updated automatically.
