Anthurium magnificum
Magnificum Anthurium

Morphology
About
Anthurium magnificum is a classic velvet Anthurium native to the humid montane forests of Colombia, where it grows as a compact terrestrial to epiphytic aroid in shaded understory environments. It is distinguished from similar species by its robust, distinctly quadrangular (square) petioles and its broad, heart-shaped leaves with a wide sinus and prominent pale venation. The deep green velvety texture of the blades is exceptional under any light, and the plant maintains a tidy upright compact habit throughout its life. A benchmark species for any serious collector.

Market Analysis & Price Guide
Historical auction metrics and live online retailer listings updated weekly.
How prices are calculated: The AA Price uses verified eBay UK completed auction data — we take the trimmed mean (removing the top and bottom 20% of prices) to produce a fair-value guide that excludes outlier sales. When recent auction data is unavailable, the AA Price falls back to the current UK retail average from tracked stockists. Retail prices are scraped from active UK plant shop listings and reflect what you would pay buying directly from a retailer today. All prices are in GBP and updated automatically.

Square Stems and Velvet Shields
The defining feature of Anthurium magnificum — beyond its magnificent velvety leaves — is the unmistakably square cross-section of its petioles. Run a finger along the stem and you feel four distinct flat faces, a feature shared with only a handful of other velvet Anthurium. Described by Linden from Colombian material, magnificum has been in cultivation for well over a century and remains one of the defining benchmark species for the velvet Anthurium category. Under stable warm and humid conditions it grows steadily, rewarding patience with impressively broad, shield-like leaves.
